What is it?

The BOC-3 designates process agents in every state who can receive legal documents on behalf of your company. It's required to activate your MC authority.

Who needs it?

  • Carriers with MC authority
  • Brokers and freight forwarders

How we do it

  1. You give us your USDOT and MC numbers.
  2. We file the BOC-3 through a process agent provider.
  3. The provider files it electronically with FMCSA.

Documents

Have ready: USDOT and MC numbers

PDF, photos, Word or Excel. Up to 10 files, 10 MB each. You can take a photo with your phone. If you don't have them now, we'll ask later.

What happens if it's not up to date?

  • Without a BOC-3, FMCSA won't activate your MC authority.
  • If it's cancelled, FMCSA revokes your MC.
  • Without active authority you can't operate for hire across state lines.

When you may not need it

  • You only have a USDOT without an MC (private or intrastate carrier)
